I Am Not A Doctor But My Uterus Appreciates This...

I have been a victim of menstrual pain for as long as I can remember. In the early days, in high school, I felt like this was a curse. I still do. There's a newness each time the pain starts. It feels like a rude reminder that my body did not volunteer for procreation that month.

What I have been searching for for a while is a non toxic solution to handle the pain that comes with it. Imagine having to pop 6 pills for 5 days every month? Yet, this is not even a sickness but what my body seems to naturally put me through unprovoked (obviously ovulation did this but it's mother nature's call in the end). Some of these pills contain pretty large amounts of caffeine or codeine. It's a bit alarming when I think of the pills as ingredients you know? Researching each ones origins and side effects...

So, recently, I made a turn to mother nature who seems to have the answer for most things. She presented me some kitchen staples that I used everyday in my cooking:

  • Hot water

  • Turmeric root (or have a teaspoon of the powder)

  • Ginger root (half a teaspoon of the powder)

  • Rooibos teabag

  • Honey

Oh what a sweet remedy!

Making a hot cup of tea with these ingredients is life changing because this concoction actually works and it is possibly a much more harmless solution (because you know, too much of anything is bad for you). These ingredients all have anti-inflammatory qualities which means that they help the body fight pain, swelling and more.

Firstly, it is warm and soothing all the way down to your gut and it takes roughly 20-30 minutes to feel much better. I usually have 3 cups a day - in the morning, afternoon and evening. It is a smart replacement for the drugs that we have all easily normalized. I can hear my friend Reezy saying, 'Ditch the pills and chew some garlic!'

Our bodies are in need of real tender loving care especially now that we are becoming aware of how our environments are affecting us internally and externally. It is of utmost importance that we make an effort to understand even the smallest items we introduce to our bodies everyday.

If you have any of your own natural remedies that work, please feel free to share in the comments of direct messages. I am interested in finding better and more holistic ways to deal with pain and improve my general wellness.

Peace and Love until my next post!
